McKeesport – March 5, 2014 – State Sen. Jim Brewster (D-Allegheny) said today that taxpayers may be eligible for help filling out their tax forms through an IRS website and can e-file their taxes for free from the site.

“The IRS has joined with a consortium of tax filing software companies in a partnership that enables eligible taxpayers to file their taxes for free,” Brewster said. “I encourage those who believe they are eligible for assistance from the IRS to access the website for help with their taxes at no cost.”

Brewster said that a taxpayer with an adjusted gross income of less than $58,000 may prepare and file their taxes for free via www.IRS.gov/freefile.

The free filing partnership was created in 2003 and has saved a reported $1.2 billion in filing costs.

Brewster said that his district offices are able to help complete Property Tax and Rent Rebate forms and can aid citizens who may have questions about state taxes.
