Monroeville, May 3, 2013 – State Sen. James Brewster today urged people interested in fishing to try the sport out on any Pennsylvania waterway on May 27, “Fish-for-free” day.
“This is a great opportunity to try to catch the big one for free,” Brewster said. “It’s also a way to see to see if you like this great outdoor sport before purchasing a fishing license.”
Brewster said the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission designated May 27 (Memorial Day) and July 4 (Independence Day) as free fishing days for families to ‘catch the fun of fishing.’ On those days, while no license is required, all other fishing rules and regulations still apply. He said both Pennsylvania residents and non-residents can take advantage of the fish-for-free days.
The McKeesport lawmaker said the commission hopes the free fishing events will encourage more people to try the sport and eventually become licensed.
“The lakes and waterways are stocked and there are some big ones out there,” Brewster said. “Give it a try. Fishing is a great sport and enjoyable outdoor family activity. I urge folks to take advantage of these two free fishing days.”
