Citizens Can Now Apply to Be a Notary Online
On September 19, 2011
McKEESPORT, Sept. 19, 2011 – Sen. Jim Brewster today announced that Pennsylvanians can now apply online to become a notary public. The online system is expected to save time and money.
“The new system will enable one to fill out their application, submit it, and obtain the necessary senatorial endorsement while sitting at their computer,” Brewster said. “The system is more efficient, timely and cost effective.”
A link to the Department of State’s online application system is available on Brewster’s website at: senatorbrewster.com
Notaries public have the power to administer oaths and affirmations, certify copies, and take depositions, affidavits and verifications.
Brewster said the department processes approximately 23,000 notary applications each year. State law requires one’s senator to endorse their application. Brewster readily agreed to participate in the online system.
Brewster said the Department of State has agreed to continue accepting paper applications for those who do not have internet access.
