Sen. Brewster Applauds Attorney General’s Rejection of Lottery Privatization Scheme
McKeesport, February 14, 2013 — State Sen. Jim Brewster (D-Allegheny/Westmoreland) today provided the following statement in response to state Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s decision to reject the legality of the Corbett Administration’s Lottery privatization contract.
“I commend Attorney General Kane for her thorough review and reasoned rejection of this Lottery privatization scheme. While this secretive deal with this foreign firm is questionable in many ways, I commend the attorney general for making an impartial decision based solely on our constitution.
“Attorney General Kane’s decision clearly exposes this privatization scheme for its legal failings. From the beginning, the governor’s privatization plan was poorly conceived, secretly executed and hinged on greatly expanding gambling in Pennsylvania.
“It was a bad idea from the start, and I hope today’s legal opinion will put an end to it once and for all.”
