PITTSBURGH, PA – October 11, 2024 − Yesterday, the PA Broadband Development Authority met to award grants from the Multipurpose Community Facilities Program. The Facilities Program offered $45 million in competitive grants to community anchor institutions and units of local government for community projects to construct, acquire, or improve facilities that are, or will be open to the public and will directly enable work, education, and health monitoring at the respective facility.

The Carnegie Library of Homestead was awarded $1,100,000 for a sprinkler installation project. This public safety improvement will allow the library to continue offering free public access to computers to wi-fi internet to jobseekers.

In addition to the library, the building is also home to the Athletic Club with over eleven hundred members and the Music Hall.  Members from more than twelve surrounding communities also enjoy a heated swimming pool, batting cages, gymnasium and walking track.  More than 40,000 patrons visit the Music Hall for concerts every year.  The Carnegie Library Music Hall regularly hosts school band concerts, local dance recitals, church plays and graduation ceremonies.

“I am pleased to be supporting a beloved public library as it offers a community space for readers, learners, job seekers, entrepreneurs, and families of all backgrounds,” said Senator Brewster. “The Carnegie Library of Homestead does incredible work in my district, and I am looking forward to seeing this safety improvement come to fruition.”
